Argumentative Essay Topics - Why is It So Important For Students to Defend the Belief System They Came From?If you have ever taken a college level English course, then chances are that you probably read an argumentative essay topic in which the writer wanted to demonstrate the superiority of Western civilization over other civilizations. And if you've ever taken any advanced college level English course, then chances are that you might have read a similar argumentative essay topic in which the writer wanted to demonstrate the superiority of European civilization over other cultures. There are a lot of arguments in these essay topics. What is the goal of each one? The goal in each of these arguments is to defend a particular ideology or specific culture. But why is it so important for the student who takes the course in a college-level English course to defend the culture or the nation they grew up in? And more importantly, why is it so important for the student who takes the course in a college-level English course to defend the belief system they came from? After all, you don't see most other students in class defending the beliefs of their parents, do you? It's not at all unusual for college students to hold these cultural attitudes, because the United States has historically been one of the most culturally conservative countries in the world. And if we are all on this planet together, it stands to reason that American families should have similar values. The parents of these two very different views of Western civilization should be able to interact peacefully and build an ideology that will accommodate each other. Unfortunately, that's not the case. The fact is that people in Western countries are more influenced by specific religious beliefs than the general population of any other country. In Western countries, religion and the family are inseparable. Some Americans actually oppose Christianity and the family, simply because the family can't survive without Ch ristianity. If you teach the argumentative essay topics that appear in American college English courses, you're teaching something very dangerous. You are teaching your students to reject common sense in favor of an ideology that isn't even American, let alone relevant to their lives.
